CIDS 1.1 was updated today, 30 Jan 1998.
The INDOEX_INTENSIVE_OBSERVATION_PHASE database was added to CIDS 1.1. This database currently contains actively updated AVHRR GAC data for the INDOEX Intensive Observation Period, 01 Jan 1998 to 31 Mar 1998. The database will be updated nightly at 6pm PST through the end of the Intensive Observation Period. The available data cover the range 23.0 S to 23.0 N, 40 to 100 E. These data will be replaced at the end of the observation period with data covering the range 35.0 S to 35.0 N, 40 to 100 E, as these data become available.
CIDS 1.1 was released today, 27 Jan 1998.
The visualization link on the CIDS homepage has been rerouted to point to a new program designed to allow the user to image original AVHRR data stored in CIDS. Note: NOAA_14 data represent nightime passes, therefore requests for Channel 1 and 2 data, the visible channels, will return blank images. Please see the CIDS Updates page to obtain a complete list of modifications made to the Data System with this release.

CIDS 1.0 was released today, 01 Nov 1997.
The INDOEX_CRUISE_109 database is nearing completion with the releasee of the NOAA 12 and 14 AVHRR GAC data, and the HIGH_VOLUME_BULK_AEROSOL_FILTER_SAMPLER update. The Cruise 109 data supplied by our Indian Colleagues at PRL and NPRL have been translated to CIDS NetCDF format. The data provided by Dr. Jayaraman have already been placed in the INDOEX_CRUISE_109 database. The remaining data will be released as soon as written approval has been obtained from the appropriate Prinicpal Investigators. We are anxiosuly awaiting receipt of the Krishnamurit Reanalysis data for Cruise 109. Once that data are obtained it will be our top priority to translate the data and place it on-line with all due speed.
CIDS 1.0 contains a backend interface that performs quick-look plots of user extracted data, as well as a number of problem repairs. Please see the CIDS Updates page to obtain a complete list of modifications made to the Data System.

Extracting packed ECMWF top_lon_rad while bracketing April 5, 1993 00:00:00 caused all data values past this time to be extracted from the variable following top_lon_rad (i.e top_sht_rad). This problem did not occur when the minimum time was past this date. Extracting the last variable (i.e. vorticity) it only returns data from before this date. The reason was that files past april 5 contained one less variable, which has been rectified.
To enable FTP of a complete dataset, a symbolic link has been established from the alphanumeric CIDS interface to the all the NetCDF CIDS data files.
Those of you who have extracted ECMWF data through the gridded data extraction in the alphanumeric version can not use it for publication because this was a special run that ECMWF prepared for SIO scientists.
If you are interested in using this data for publication purposes, contact cids@borneo.ucsd.edu with a description of your intended reserach and we will forward this to ECMWF. If approved, you will still need to acknowledge ECMWF.
From now on, these data can no longer be extracted unles we have received permission from ECMWF to do so.
CIDS Collocation has a bug which causes wrong primary and secondary index pairs for 1D with 1D collocations. This problem was rectified on Feb 18, 1995.
The following message was sent out.
C4's CEPEX Integrated Data System or CIDS is online and can be accessed via WWW site "http://borneo.ucsd.edu" which brings you to C4's Home Page. For those of you not familiar with CIDS, a short description follows.
CIDS is the CEPEX Integrated Data System. It is a unique system that provides easy and uniform access to all the observations from the Central Equatorial Pacific Experiment (CEPEX) conducted in March and April, 1993. CIDS enables synthesis of a wide variety of in situ and satellite measurements. It is designed to facilitate multidisciplinary research by providing a common interface to complex and heterogeneous data sets. It distinguishes itself from other Data Base Management Systems (DBMS) in that it facilitates automatic subsetting, collocation and merging of measurements from any set of measuring platforms. Applicability of CIDS is not limited to CEPEX data and anyone interested in integrating other data sets should contact us.
If you have any question regarding CIDS please contact Dr. Erwin Boer at 619-534-6468 or send email to cids@borneo.ucsd.edu.
The AVHRR NetCDF data files did not have time as the slowest changing dimension which CIDS assumes. Wrote nc_swap_dim to swap dimensions in any NetCDF file.
