Documentation

C4 provides an on-line computer system to access data from observations and models. In particular it is a great tool for accessing data collected during field experiments. These data can be obtained via this WWW interface. All data are returned in composite NetCDF files.

The CIDS development team provides several utilities to read netCDF data into various programming languages, plotting packages, and visual formats. The WWW interface enables you to browse through data inventories, perform data extractions and/or collocations and activate limited visualization of CIDS datasets.

To provide you with some idea about the steps we had to go through to build CIDS, a flow chart was created.

The current version of CIDS contains atmospheric databases focusing on data from the Central Equatorial Pacific Experiment (CEPEX) and the Indian Ocean Experiment (INDOEX).

Database Exploration Utilities

The list of platform-instrument pairs supported within a CIDS database may be obtained from the Database Browse utility. This utility also provides the ability to view the header information and geographical and time bounds of every entry under a specified platform-instrument pair. Each platform-instrument pair points to a set of unique NetCDF data files that generally correspond to satellite images, aircraft flights, or sounding launches.

Extraction, Collocation, and Data Transfer

Extract Data Collocate Data
These links are intended for the extraction of specified segments of data from larger data sets or for the purpose of collocation. The extraction of entire data sets is possible, but it is faster and easier on our machines to use the Transfer function.
