A Symposium in Honor of Professor Robert D. Cess

Symposium Location.

The Professor Robert D. Cess Symposium will be held in the Gardner Room and the Robinson Auditorium of the Robinson Building Complex at the International School of Relations and Pacific Studies (IR/PS) Graduate School of the University of California, San Diego (UCSD).


Gardner Room is on the left (grey door).
The Robinson Auditorium is the circular building in the front.

Shuttle Information to UCSD from the San Diego International Airport.

Commercial shuttles are available from the San Diego Airport at the shuttle islands across from the main entrances. These shuttle islands are accessible via short (approximately 200 ft.) overpasses from the second floors of the main terminals.

Two courtesy telephones are provided next to the Baggage Claim/Information Board in all airport terminals to contact shuttle services. Approximate fares are $12 per person/one-way. Advance reservations are not necessary except for those persons in need of a wheelchair accessible van.

Note: Neither the Hotel La Jolla nor the Sea Lodge provides shuttle service from the airport to the respective hotels. However, these hotels will arrange a shuttle from their establishment to the airport and request advance notice of at least one day, if possible.

From north of La Jolla
Take Interstate 5 South.
Exit on Genessee Avenue west.
Proceed to the third light at the top of the hill.
Turn left onto North Torrey Pines Road.
Turn left onto North Point Drive and continue until you see a UCSD Visitor Information Center on the right.

From south of La Jolla.

Take Interstate 5 North.
Exit on Gilman Drive.
Turn left at the light onto Gilman Drive.
Continue for about 1 1/2 miles until you see a UCSD Visitor Center on the right.

Parking Permits.
You may obtain parking permits ($6.00/permit), specific directions, visitor parking information and a campus map at the UCSD Visitor Center.

Transportation Options between Hotels and Meeting Location.

San Diego Bus Service.

UCSD Shuttle Services

**To Upper Campus**
The Scripps Institution of Oceanography Shuttle provides transportation between SIO and UCSD's central campus (southwest corner only). NOTE: Shuttle stop is a fifteen-twenty minute walk away from the Gardner Room and the Robinson Auditorium. Click here for a map and schedule.

**On Upper Campus**
Three shuttles (North Campus, Campus Loop and Torrey Pines Center) on upper campus stop near IR/PS at the intersection of Salk Institute Road and Scholar's Drive North. Please click on the shuttle name below for a map and schedule:

Directions to IR/PS from UCSD Visitor Centers.

From North Point Drive UCSD Visitor Center.
Turn left (west) to stop sign.
Turn left onto Scholars Drive.
Turn left on International Lane (approximately 300ft before pedestrian bridge).
Turn right into parking lot #306 which is closest to the IR/PS Robinson Complex.

From Gilman Drive UCSD Visitor Center.

Turn right onto Gilman.
Turn left almost immediately at the stop sign onto Osler Lane.
Road bends left (north) into Scholars Drive South and changes to Scholars Drive North.
Turn left on International Lane (approximately 300ft after pedestrian bridge).
Turn right into parking lot #306 which is closest to the IR/PS Robinson Complex.

Directions to Gardner Room and the Robinson Auditorium at IR/PS.

Proceed along the walkway (perpendicular to the IR/PS sign, see photo below) to the main courtyard of the Robinson Building Complex. The circular building directly ahead is the Robinson Auditorium. The Gardner Room is to the forward left of the Robinson Auditorium. Signs will direct you to the complex. Click here for a map of IR/PS.
